The starting point of The New Dictionary of Old Ideas is multifaceted research of Central Europe. An artistic exploration of topics concerning identity and urgent socio-political issues was extended by involving artists and curators based in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Poland, and Spain. As a result, a traveling group exhibition was created, which looked at Central Europe as a metaphor for complex connections, while exploring what “central” could mean when definitions are considered as being in flux. The exhibition included various artistic forms and approaches responding to different problematic topics in Europe. It took place at two locations: MeetFactory (Prague) and TRAFO (Szczecin). Due to the pandemic of 2020, difficulties, and changes, project activities in Tbilisi and Madrid continued in a different format.
One of the aspects of implementing the exhibition at the Silk Museum in Tbilisi was to also explore connections between contemporary art and the museum’s specificity. In the framework of The New Dictionary of Old Ideas, during 15.10.-15.11.2020 the activities of the State Silk Museum included:
- Exhibition “Roads” (virtual reality)
- Intervention (in physical and online spaces)
- Public program: lectures and talks (recordings presented online)
You can find information about each activity on the pages of this blog post, where information was gradually added during the above mentioned dates.
